Mohammed Afsan, a resident of Hyderabad, was promised a job in Russia but was coerced into fighting for Russia in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Afsan’s family initially received news of his death from the Indian Embassy, only to later learn from the recruiting agents that he was alive and they were attempting to retrieve him.
Indian Embassy officials conveyed Afsan’s death to his family based on information from Russian authorities. However, the agents who recruited Afsan disputed this claim, stating they had located him and were working on bringing him back.
MP Asaduddin Owaisi urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to intervene and repatriate 12 Indians, including Afsan, who were ensnared in the scam. Afsan’s family, while expressing doubts about his reported demise, pleaded with the government to facilitate the return of his body if confirmedย deceased.
